indigenous.junglist Remember the EP series started since the beginning of lockdown? I feel like this EP is the hidden level in a video game. The opening track is sets the tone right before it unlocks more sonic anguish. I love the variety of tempos. Listeners can hear bits from their mix for BBC 6. Looking forward to what’s ahead. Thanks, guys. Favorite track: Everythingmustchange.

Stephen Hawker Stray and Sabre as individuals have been carving their own sound and journey, made some of my favourite records and productions as individuals on labels like Exit, Darkestral and Metalheadz. Since collaborating as Ivy Lab they've pushed boundaries from day dot and continued to further develop their sound. This release is no exception, musical freedom, experimentation gone right, sonic dopeness, sick collaborations, they're not even asking for a price. This release is an absolute killer!! Props!

about

Ivy Lab release the “Everythingmustchange” E.P, featuring their second collaboration with London rapper Onoe Caponoe

With an autumn of releases on other people’s labels approaching, Londoners Gove & Jay (Sabre & Stray) are sneaking in a summer outing on their own 20/20 imprint with their first larger body of work of the year.

Threatening to crescendo but never really cresting; the opener and title track collides vintage soul romanticism with Memphis phonk - the first arrival of lucid ‘tale-of-two-halves’ juxtaposition the EP often revisits. Moody clockwork precision is offered a counterpoint with a neo-soul topline asking “Baby are you worth it?” midway through “Stacked”, and the stuttering robot-sleaze of “Oxford Diagnostics” chaperoned by an ambiguous whispering drawl gets broken up towards its turning point by full spectrum euro-dance pads and ecstatic vocal chops.

By the time ‘Ki-Tech’ emerges, the EP’s sonics have completed a full transition from blanket-warm to shivering ice, culminating in the muddy, alien-808 landscape of “Rainfire” with Holy Delix crew frontman Onoe Caponoe’s relentless machine-gun flow.

“We have some work dropping later in the year that’s a touch more mainstream. We just wanted to get a counterpoint to that material out there whilst the lockdown-assisted appetite for weird beats is still ripe” ~ Ivy Lab
